Marta Forsberg (1989-) is a Swedish composer, sound artist and violinist working in the field of installation art, drone music and free improvisation. Dedicated to creating an immersive environment, Forsberg’s work extends the sensory realm through multichannel expansion and via light sculptures - a sonic visualisation. She strives to create a space where everyone, both performers and audience get a chance to be surrounded by the experience of being in the music. Here, spatiality and presence becomes important aspects of the performance. In this way Forsberg wishes to shift the focus from the performing artist on the stage to a collective presence, in sound and in the room.
Marta was born in Härnösand, an east cost city in the north of Sweden, and studied electroacoustic composition at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. In addition to her purely artistic activities, she is the initiator and an active member of Konstmusiksystrar, an organisation working for gender equality in the Contemporary Music scene in Sweden.
Her current interest is mainly connecting music and light through building LED-light constructions in space-specific installations. She likes to explore the relation between the listener or viewer, the object or sound, and the specific spacial situation, and how this can form an extended conversation.
