Hi! I am Sara Parkman (b. 1989) and I'm a folk musician, composer, writer and artist from the north of Sweden. I make music because that is the best thing I know. The last year I have released two albums (Sara Parkmans Skog and Matriarkerna), one show (Fäboland) and composed music for theater and film (Sång till Välfärden, Nationens Hjärta, Amatörer and Kevlar). To work with traditional music in a contemporary context is in it self truly inspiring.
I have a bachelor in Swedish traditional music from the Royal college of music in Stockholm but my experience in music is that my understanding of music comes from a vivid mix of people, places, traditions.
The last years I have collaborated with artists such Fever Ray, David Väyrynen, Bob hund and institutions such Riksteatern, Dramaten and Swedish Television.
I've been working a lot with old herding music as a feminist and queer artistic strategy, and lately I’ve been connecting the musical process with actually working relationally, with people in artistic context. There is strength in the collective and people creating music together.
With roots in the sakral music I strive to add the holiness to my musical pieces.
